A Journey Like No Other: Outback Air Race 2025
Every few years, adventurous aviators set out on a journey that’s as much about camaraderie and discovery as competition. The Outback Air Race 2025 is a 3,881-kilometre odyssey across Australia, raising vital funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
From Red Sands to Turquoise Seas
This year’s race route reads like an explorer’s dream. The adventure begins in Yulara, NT, the gateway to the majestic Uluru. From here, pilots and their crews will soar over the ochre deserts and ancient ranges of the Red Centre, making their way to the legendary Alice Springs.
But that’s just the beginning. The journey continues north to Tennant Creek and the historic Daly Waters, where outback hospitality is as famous as the sunsets. Next, it’s on to Katherine (Tindal), where tropical rivers wind through rugged gorges.
Crossing into Western Australia, the landscape transforms yet again. Kununurra greets racers with dramatic cliffs and boab trees, before they set course for the pearling town of Broome, where red earth meets turquoise sea. The adventure doesn’t stop there—pilots will touch down in Onslow and the coral-fringed Exmouth before the grand finish in Carnarvon, WA, where the outback finally surrenders to the Indian Ocean.

The Outback Air Race isn’t about who’s the fastest—it’s a time trial where precision, planning, and a sense of adventure reign supreme. Each team nominates their times for each leg, but the real prize is in the friendships forged, the stories collected, and the breathtaking sights witnessed from above. Whether it’s a spontaneous photo stop or a detour to visit an outback legend, every day brings a new adventure.
The Route 2025 Overview:
The 2025 Outback Air Race, supporting the Royal Flying Doctor Service, will take place from 22 August to 8 September 2025. The route is significantly different from 2022.
Start in Yulara (Uluru), NT Proceed north through: Alice Springs Tennant Creek Daly Waters Katherine Kununurra Broome Onslow Exmouth Finish in Carnarvon, WA This route covers approximately 3,881 kilometers (about 2,100 nautical miles) over 15 days, with 10 stops along the way
