A unique means of adding greater machinery efficiency to mine-site operations
A few years ago we introduced the Sleipner transport system’s brilliant excavator transport unit into Australia. It has proven to be hugely successful on a range of mine sites across the country.
These systems enable excavators to be easily relocated around a mine site, or for bringing them into workshops for servicing and repairs.
There are currently 11 at sites around the country.
The first one was purchased by Fortescue Metals Group to relocate their RH170 excavators, and is still going strong.
Furthermore, we have supplied one to an Indonesian operation and another unit for a site in Mongolia.
A UNIT FOR DOZERS AND DRILLS
Following the great success of these units for moving excavators we introduced the Sleipner DB 120 – a specialised trailer for dozers and drills.
The key advantage of these units is that the machinery can be easily brought to a workshop for servicing, and even better than that, sites have found by having quick and easy transport, they have been able to optimise their dozer team – actually reducing the number of dozers needed in a mine-site.
That represents a big saving!
One operator was able to make a quite substantial reduction to his fleet of dozers thanks to the speed and mobility of the DB 120.
The DB120 is remarkably easy to load (less than 2 minutes for a dozer), can be towed by a standard 6X6 articulated truck, can handle loads up to 120 tonne and it has a compact 11 metre turning radius making it well suited to tight locations.
REDUCES ROAD DAMAGE
An additional benefit of these units is that their use significantly reduces road damage.
One operator cited road maintenance expenditure in a period of nine months, being reduced by $14,000 – not a bad saving just as a ‘side benefit’.
Nick Bolton is our Sleipner product specialist.
Nick has an excellent knowledge of the capacities of these rigs that enables him to specify what a mine-site requires for its particular size machinery.
